Your first job
By the end of this page you’ll have a job ready for someone to go and do.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”You need a job type and a customer. If you don’t have them yet, see Creating a job type and Adding a customer. You don’t need a resource to create the job; you can assign someone later. If you’re starting from a brand new organisation, Set up WorkWing for the first time puts these steps in order.
To create jobs you need the Operator, Operations Manager, Brand Administrator or Tenant Admin role.
Start the job
Section titled “Start the job”Click Create Job in the top right of the dashboard or the jobs list. A searchable list of your job types opens. Pick one and the create form opens with that job type already chosen. The form opens as a dialog; Full form opens the same form as a full page if you’d rather have the room.
Fill in the details
Section titled “Fill in the details”The form has three parts.
Job details
Section titled “Job details”- Brand, if you have more than one.
- Job type. You can change it here, but if you’ve already filled in the job type’s fields, WorkWing asks first because switching clears them.
- Priority: Low, Normal, High or Urgent. Normal is selected to start with.
- Customer. Type to search. You can pick a project here instead, which makes the job one of that project’s jobs.
- Location. Once you’ve picked a customer, choose which of their locations the job is at.
Scheduled start
Section titled “Scheduled start”Pick a date and time, then a duration: 30m, 1h, 2h, 4h or Custom. The job type’s default duration is already selected. You can leave the schedule empty and set it later from the dispatch console.
Add resource opens the picker. Search by name and tick the people you want. Someone marked unavailable for that time is flagged, and someone who can no longer log in can’t be picked. You can add more than one person. Travel times appear when you assign from the dispatch console, where the map knows where the job is.
Notes and attachments
Section titled “Notes and attachments”Notes for whoever does the work, files to attach, and the job type’s own fields. Any custom fields you’ve set up for jobs appear here too.
Click Create Job. WorkWing gives the job a number in your brand’s format (see Job settings) and sets its status: Pending if nobody is assigned, Assigned if someone is. Anyone you assigned gets a notification on their phone.
If you close the form with unsaved changes, WorkWing asks before discarding them.
What’s next
Section titled “What’s next”- Job details: everything about the job in one place
- Statuses and workflow: what happens from here
- The dispatch console: schedule and move work on the map and timeline
