Messaging the field
Some things a job needs don’t belong in its description: the gate code changed, the customer wants you an hour earlier, park round the back. Messages get that to the people actually going.
Sending one
Section titled “Sending one”Messages to field workers is at the bottom of the job page. Type into the box and click Send message. It goes to everyone assigned, arrives as a notification on their phones, and shows on the job and in their Messages tab. Ctrl+Enter, or Cmd+Enter on a Mac, sends it without reaching for the mouse.
To reach one person rather than all of them, use the speech-bubble button next to their name under Assigned Resources. In the dispatch console the message dialog has a Send to list with Everyone assigned and each person by name.
Sending needs the Operator, Operations Manager, Brand Administrator or Tenant Admin role.
Has it landed?
Section titled “Has it landed?”Each message in the thread names who it went to and shows either Unread or when they read it. A message sent to everyone gets one line per person, so you can tell the difference between “they know” and “they haven’t looked at their phone since eight this morning”.
When you can’t send
Section titled “When you can’t send”- Nobody is assigned. There’s nobody to send to, so the box is disabled until you put someone on the job.
- The job is completed or cancelled. The thread stays readable, but the box goes away. Re-open the job if it genuinely needs a new instruction.
Why they can’t reply
Section titled “Why they can’t reply”The thread is one way, on purpose. Your engineers can’t answer in it; the app tells them so at the bottom of every message so nobody types into a void.
To send something back they add a job note, which lands in Notes & Activity on the job for the office to read. That keeps everything said about a job as one ordered list rather than a conversation someone has to piece together later.
What your engineers see
Section titled “What your engineers see”On their phone, a message shows on the job marked From dispatch, and in the Messages tab with a count of what’s new. See Your day.
What’s next
Section titled “What’s next”- Job details: where the thread sits on the job
- Assigning resources: getting somebody on the job to message
