The pool and claiming

A project’s pool jobs aren’t anybody’s until someone takes one. This page covers both ends of that: claiming from the phone, and running the pool from the office.

An engineer sees the project in their jobs, not its pool jobs, so the list stays short. The project’s card shows how far the work has got, as 12 of 50 jobs done, and a Day 2 of 5 badge while its window runs across several days.

Opening the project shows a Jobs section with the whole pool:

  • The same progress line the office sees, with a bar.
  • A search box, and Available, Mine and Done filters, which earn their keep once a project runs to dozens of jobs.
  • Every job in the pool with a status chip: Available, Claimed, In progress, Done, or Pinned - Tue for a job with a window of its own. A claimed job says who has it.

Jobs are ordered so the engineer’s own work sits at the top: what they’ve started, then what they’ve claimed, then what’s free, then everyone else’s. Finished jobs are tucked behind Show completed.

Tap a job, then tap Claim. It’s theirs, it joins their jobs, and the app opens it so they can get on with the work. Reaching a free pool job any other way makes the same offer: Nobody has this one yet, with a Claim button. From there it behaves like any assigned job, and its schedule line reads During PRJ0001 instead of unscheduled.

There’s no “give me the next one” button. Which job makes sense depends on where the engineer is standing, so the choice stays theirs.

Release to pool hands a job back, and it’s there until they set off or arrive on site. After that the claim is the office’s to move, so ask an operator to reassign it. Only crew members can claim, and an engineer who isn’t on the crew is told so.

Claims work without signal: the job is theirs on their device straight away and syncs when the connection comes back. If two engineers claim the same job while both are out of contact, the first claim to reach WorkWing stands. The other engineer sees Somebody else claimed that job first. The list now shows who has it. and the row updates to show who holds it. Whoever actually got to the work keeps it.

A claim is also what spends a job from your allowance. If your organisation has reached its limit for the period, the claim is refused and the engineer is told why.

Open the project and click Edit. The Jobs section is your pool console: the same jobs, chips, search and Available, Claimed and Done filters the field sees, plus a Window column reading During project for pool jobs and the dates for pinned ones. Under the progress bar is a tally of completed jobs per crew member, handy for an end-of-day check.

Tick one or more jobs and a toolbar appears.

  • Move to project… sends them to a different project. Create new project from selection starts a new one holding them instead, which is offered when the whole selection is for one customer.
  • Detach returns them to the unscheduled backlog as ordinary jobs, clearing any pinned window.
  • Pin window gives them a start and end of their own, separate from the project’s.
  • Assign to… books a crew member onto them directly, which takes them out of the pool.

The menu on each row has Assign, and Release claim to free a job somebody else is holding.

Pinning a job outside the project’s window is allowed. Real scheduling needs it: the crane has to come a day early. WorkWing flags it instead of blocking it, so the job’s own page carries a note reading Outside PRJ0001’s window with the project’s dates.
